Our Chief Chemist and Formulator is Dr. Clive R. Spray, Ph.D.
Dr. Spray obtained his B.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Hull, U.K. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Bath, U.K. This early phase of Dr. Spray's career was specifically aimed at the development of novel approaches to cancer treatment as well as new analgesic products based on opiates. Some of the specific chemicals developed during this work were patented by a leading pharmaceutical company that acted as a sponsor for his Ph.D. program.
Dr. Spray then accepted a research position at the University of Bristol, UK, studying the chemical basis for the regulation of plant growth. After one year, Dr. Spray moved to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) to continue these studies. At UCLA he trained graduate students and extended his research to the genetic basis for the regulation of plant growth - in laymen's terms - genetic modification of crop plants. This period of his career defined an interest in natural nutrition.
Dr. Spray's work on plant growth regulation continued for some 15 years, during which time his small group of researchers published over 50 research papers. This work has been quoted in many student textbooks and also presented at academic conferences throughout the world.
