10 Ways to Instantly Build Self Confidence

Self-confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and feeling scared out of your wits. Your perception of yourself has an enormous impact on how others perceive you. Perception is reality — the more self-confidence you have, the more likely it is you’ll succeed.

Although many of the factors affecting self-confidence are beyond your control, there are a number of things you can consciously do to build self-confidence. By using these 10 strategies you can get the mental edge you need to reach your potential.

Dress Sharp

Although clothes don’t make the man, they certainly affect the way he feels about himself. No one is more conscious of your physical appearance than you are. When you don’t look good, it changes the way you carry yourself and interact with other people. Use this to your advantage by taking care of your personal appearance. In most cases, bathing and shaving frequently, wearing clean clothes, and being cognizant of the latest styles can make significant improvements.

This doesn’t mean you need to spend a lot on clothes. One great rule to follow is “spend twice as much, buy half as much”. Rather than buying a bunch of cheap clothes, buy half as many select, high quality items. In long run this decreases spending because expensive clothes wear out less easily and stay in style longer than cheap clothes. Buying less also helps reduce the clutter in your closet.

Walk Faster

One of the easiest ways to tell how a person feels about herself is to examine her walk. Is it slow? Tired? Painful? Or is it energetic and purposeful? People with confidence walk quickly. They have places to go, people to see, and important work to do. Even if you aren’t in a hurry, you can increase your self-confidence by putting some pep in your step. Walking 25% faster will make to you look and feel more important.

Good Posture

Similarly, the way a person carries his or herself tells a story. People with slumped shoulders and lethargic movements display a lack of self-confidence. They aren’t enthusiastic about what they’re doing and they don’t consider themselves important. By practicing good posture, you’ll automatically feel more confident. Stand up straight, keep your head up, and make eye contact. You’ll make a positive impression on others and instantly feel more alert and empowered.

Personal Commercial

One of the best ways to build confidence is listening to a motivational speech. Unfortunately, opportunities to listen to a great speaker are few and far between. You can fill this need by creating a personal commercial. Write a 30-60 second speech that highlights your strengths and goals. Then recite it in front of the mirror aloud (or inside your head if you prefer) whenever you need a confidence boost.

Gratitude

When you focus too much on what you want, the mind creates reasons why you can’t have it. This leads you to dwell on your weaknesses. The best way to avoid this is consciously focusing on gratitude. Set aside time each day to mentally list everything you have to be grateful for. Recall your past successes, unique skills, loving relationships, and positive momentum. You’ll be amazed how much you have going for you and motivated to take that next step towards success.

Compliment Others

When we think negatively about ourselves, we often project that feeling on to others in the form of insults and gossip. To break this cycle of negativity, get in the habit of praising other people. Refuse to engage in backstabbing gossip and make an effort to compliment those around you. In the process, you’ll become well liked and build self-confidence. By looking for the best in others, you indirectly bring out the best in yourself.

Sit In the Front Row

In schools, offices, and public assemblies around the world; people constantly strive to sit at the back of the room. Most people prefer the back because they’re afraid of being noticed. This reflects a lack of self-confidence. By deciding to sit in the front row, you can get over this irrational fear and build your self-confidence. You’ll also be more visible to the important people talking from the front of the room.

Speak Up

During group discussions many people never speak up because they’re afraid that people will judge them for saying something stupid. This fear isn’t really justified. Generally, people are much more accepting than we imagine. In fact most people are dealing with the exact same fears. By making an effort to speak up at least once in every group discussion, you’ll become a better public speaker, more confident in your own thoughts, and recognized as a leader by your peers.

Work Out

Along the same lines as personal appearance, physical fitness has a huge effect on self-confidence. If you’re out of shape, you’ll feel insecure, unattractive, and less energetic. By working out, you improve your physical appearance, energize yourself, and accomplish something positive. Having the discipline to work out not only makes you feel better; it creates positive momentum that you can build on the rest of the day.

Focus On Contribution

Too often we get caught up in our own desires. We focus too much on ourselves and not enough on the needs of other people. If you stop thinking about yourself and concentrate on the contribution you’re making to the rest of the world, you won’t worry, as much about you own flaws. This will increase self-confidence and allow you to contribute with maximum efficiency. The more you contribute to the world the more you’ll be rewarded with personal success and recognition.

Think Without Fear

Training your mind to think freedom without fear, to think potential, to think success is very similar to training your body for a sport. Athletes know pain is only temporary and potential must be seen in the mind’s eye.

Pain is typically easier to remember than pleasure – and the memory of past pain generates fear whenever you encounter a situation with the possibility to cause new pain. Thus you are guided by your fear to avoid painful situations rather than by your desire to enjoy pleasurable situations. This will lead to mental barriers and blockages that can be very difficult to climb.

Certain thoughts become capable of generating fear. That fear keeps people from thinking any further because they associate it with emotional or physical pain.

For you to break down the mental walls of perceived fear, you must give yourself permission to ask questions – questions that will break down your limiting beliefs of the past and help you think “outside the box.”  In essence, you must begin actively “asking questions” of your own thoughts, opinions and beliefs in a positive way. Your self-esteem and self-worth in large is based from your present belief systems. By conquering fear, you’ll have the confidence to take yourself to freedom and success!

Practice a technique I call AAA – Awareness-Acknowledgement-Action to create a positive breakthrough in your thinking. Breakthroughs begin with deep awareness and core acknowledgement. Action to increase potential will naturally follow.

As a success coach I teach students to “ask yourself questions in the direction you want your life to move.” Mind mastery is part of the journey. You must seek to remove fear – all journeys begin with that single step.

Your eventual reward will be an open and confident mind that stands strong against past and present fear because it is not afraid of the possibilities that free thought and life’s potential have to offer. And in the absence of fear, you will enjoy increased powers of perception, a high degree of self-confidence and self-trust, peace of mind and a mindset of success!

Sabotage

Cool sounding word, but if your VitaMist business is not growing as quickly as you want, have a look at yourself… as you may be the cause for the slow growth. NLP is a very simple but powerful tool to have in your self help skills toolbox that you should apply for yourself and also use as a MLM training tool for all your new MLM consultants. Read on:

“If you ask a hundred people ‘What would you like for yourself,’ ninety-nine will say ‘I want to stop doing X.’”

And continuing with an extract from the classic book,
‘Frogs into Princes’:

“There is an entirely different way to look at change, which we call the generative or enrichment approach.

Instead of looking for what’s wrong and fixing it, it’s possible simply to think of ways that your life could be enriched: ‘What would be fun to do, or interesting to be able to do?’

‘What new capacities or abilities could I invent for myself?’ ‘How can I make things really groovy?’”

YOUR WISH LIST

For the following exercise, rather than thinking of material goals, think instead about how you wish people would behave toward you?

Examples:
I wish people would be more friendly towards me.
How will you know when the wish is being fulfilled?
What will you be seeing, hearing  and feeling?
– Genuine smiles, friendly voices, eye contact.

Now for each wish ask yourself, ‘What’s important about
that?’

So for the first example, of people being more friendly, the importance of that could be; to feel safer.

And what’s important about feeling safer? – Inner Calm

What you are doing here of course is eliciting values. These are the values that you are motivated towards. You could ask the question again about the new value too and get a deeper value or is it a higher value? hmmm…

“BE THE CHANGE”

Wasn’t it Gandhi that said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

So pick one of the behaviors from your wish list. Now ask yourself, ‘Where could I practice this behavior and with whom?’

The Law of Attraction + NLP= MLM Success

I have been talking to a lot of people in VitaMist and I have run across some thinking about using the Law of Attraction to achieve MLM success. Most people involved in MLM struggle to see the Success they are looking for. It is not due to lack of effort however. So what can be the missing component? The answer just might be understanding The Law of Attraction and how your mind can hold you back.

However, most attempting to use the Law of Attraction to manifest their desires also struggle to no avail. This is where NLP (Nero-linguistic Programming) comes into play. Combining these three seemingly completely different disciplines is the foundation of my personal success.

Below I will share with you a strategy to achieve anything you desire. MLM Success? No problem. Financial Freedom? No problem. Self-employment, prosperity in economically challenging times?  No problem.  Prospecting? No problem.

LAW OF ATTRACTION

A philosophy indicating that your experience and life circumstances are the result of your thoughts & feelings. Everything in your entire life is the effect of your energetic output. Like gravity, it is an immutable law of the universe. You attract your life experience by virtue of who you are.

Nero-linguistic programming is a personal development method of re-programming your mind using its natural system of information storage. Why is this important to us and why does it apply to MLM Success? Using NLP techniques you can rapidly attune yourself to attract whatever it is you are looking for. See… The reason people struggle with the Law of Attraction is because you can’t just think your way to success. Well you can, but it will take years. The Law responds to your vibration, who you feel, who you are… If you want MLM Success it will only manifest after you are successful.

The Law of Attraction responds to who you truly fundamentally believe yourself to be. The problem is we only believe ourselves to be “successful” after we see the physical proof of success. The Universe will not manifest success until you first believe down to your core that you are successful.

You cannot manifest abundance until you feel abundant. You must resonate abundance to attract abundance. You must radiate abundance. Shine abundance…Yes…BEFORE you make any money, while heaped in debt, while struggling…you must feel ABUNDANT.

I think of it as the adolescent mindset. You remember…before you ever made your first dollar and you believed you could tackle the world! That is an abundant attitude!

NLP can assist you to quickly re-program yourself.  Yes, re-programming yourself at the most fundamental levels. This is why I recommend using NLP because it has been proven to work time after time to achieve MLM success. Your goal is clear! You know what you want.

After using NLP you will then need to understand the business and start taking the action steps towards success. However it will not manifest until you understand your own role in your Universe and how you can apply the Law of Attraction to your benefit. But understanding is not enough. You must then do the internal work.

Once you become an MLM success internally you will start taking action, a big secret of the Law of Attraction and you will become an MLM success externally.

The Law of Attraction is a powerful tool in your MLM success toolbox. When I first started out I played with it a little but before long it became more and more of my daily work. Now it is a natural part of my life and work so I decided to share my understanding with you.
